Prevent mass account creation
Prevent mass account creation fraud, also known as multi-account abuse or velocity abuse, is the process by which bad actors create multiple accounts on a digital platform for various nefarious purposes. These can include fraudulently claiming free benefits such as trial subscriptions, free pricing tiers, and referral codes; spamming and posting malicious content to negatively impact public opinion; skewing polls or voting systems through artificially inflated results; or coordinating harassment campaigns against real users on large scales.
The problem is, traditional tools for tackling this type of fraud are unable to detect fake accounts at the point where they’re being created. This is because these types of accounts typically look legitimate. For example, modern bots are able to easily solve CAPTCHAs and can hide behind the mask of “real” human inputs. Additionally, a lot of the time, fraudsters are only detected after they’ve already committed a fraudulent transaction.
