The most common use of Game AI is with non-player characters (NPCs). AI algorithms are used to create more realistic NPCs that react and interact with the player in more human ways. For example, they can detect audible & physical disturbances like footsteps or a twig snapping underfoot, and respond to the threat by attacking, defending or fleeing. This enhances gameplay as it is no longer a simple attack/defend situation but requires the player to think on their feet and consider how to tackle the opponent.
